I do not like the label “public servant” when applied to elected officials who are paid a lot of money, receive benefits that their fellow citizens do not get and then in the case of Federal “public servants” they get many benefits for life!
This is not being a servant this is a very well paid job that continues to pay well even after the work stops.
My question – “How long will Donald Trump stay in the position of US president?”
Being US president is a round the clock job with constant stress and duties. This is quite different than Trump’s gilded life up until now.
How will he handle it when the first negative publicity comes from the media he so hates? How will he handle an approval rating poll that shows him down and perhaps lower than other first time presidents? Trump does love the popularity polls when they are in his favor.
How will Tump handle it when a foreign leader says something negative about him?
Does Trump really want to do the job of president or does he just love the idea of being president?
It is not a kingship, everyone will not follow his every command, he will need to get congress to vote for his ideas, he will need to get the military leaders on-board with whatever ideas he may have (remember he said he knew more than all the generals). I think all of the generals also remember that statement.
The title is “commander in chief” not “dictator in chief”. The generals will not follow illegal orders, nor will anyone else, I hope.
I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.
Lyndon Johnson knew what it is like to be president and I suspect the job is no more difficult now than it was during his time. Let’s see how Trump handles “being a jackass in a hailstorm” and how long he can take it.
Being president is like being a jackass in a hailstorm. There’s nothing to do but to stand there and take it.
